Opening on Berkeley Transportation Commission
District 3- Max Anderson's district will need a Transportation Commissioner starting in May. I've been his representative on this Commission for several years, and Maudelle Shirek's before that. The Commission meets once monthly, 8 months a year, the 3rd Thurs. of the month, 7 p.m. at the North Berkeley Senior Center at MLK & Hearst. It's been great working with Farid Javendel (Transportation Division Manager) and Eric Anderson (Bike Ped Planner), Matt Nichols (Senior Planner), Kara Vuicich (Transit-focused Planner) and others who work for the City of Berkeley.
There are LOTS of great Bike Projects coming up, and it will be time to write a NEW Bike Plan in the next year or so. The new above-ground Bike Station will be opening around Bike to Work Day, a new "Streets and Open Space Improvement Plan" will discuss bike lanes on Hearst, 9th St. crossing of Ashby and Caldecott 4th Bore mitigations are all coming up; not to mention BRT, the new Pedestrian Master Plan, etc., etc.
It's a great time to work on bike projects in the City of Berkeley. You can be part of it! There is an option to join subcommittees, like the Bike Subcommittee, Pedestrian Subcommittee, and the Transit Subcommittee.
You don't have to live in District 3, but you do have to live in Berkeley. If you are interested, email me, or Max Anderson.
